Use of screens and “screen time”
It is recommended that no screens should be introduced to a child less than 2 years of age. Between 2 and 5 years of age a maximum of 60 minutes of screen time can be introduced.
For children who are diagnosed with Myopia, excessive near activity associated with use of small screens such as cell phones and iPads could cause progression of Myopia.
In general, the ill-effects of use of screen ranges from eye strain to dry eyes to watery eyes to Headaches in older children. It can also affect a child’s attention, learning and eating and sleep pattern.
What kind of light is good for your child’s eye?
Excessive exposure to light can also be harmful for the eyes. However, for longer reading hours, white light is recommended.
What is a good age to use contact lenses?
On an average, for a routine Refractive Error correction, we wait till the child is responsible enough to handle contact lenses. The average age is between 13 and 15 years. But sometimes contact lenses are even prescribed to babies with severe problems.
When can I opt for LASIK?
A LASIK surgery procedure is advised to be performed after the child crosses 18 years of age, if the Refractive Error has been stable for at least 6 to 8 months.
