Spinal Disc Replacement: A Brief Insight

Spinal Disc Replacement: A Brief Insight | Narayana Health

Although back and neck pain has become ubiquitous, the majority of them can be managed non-invasively with expert medical care. Only a small percentage requires surgical intervention which can range from fusionless discectomies to excision of vertebral body and fusion of damaged regions of the spine.

In terms of surgical options, Spine Disc Replacement is a relatively new and advanced surgical technology that aims to cure the pathology without hampering the natural flexibility of the spine. It works by replacing the spinal discs (natural cushions between the bones of the spine) with an artificial ones made up of metal and plastic. This is different from fusion surgeries where spinal discs are replaced with bone and thus eliminating the natural flexibility between bones of the spine. The preservation of natural flexibility of the spine results in less stress on other bones in the spinal column and thus significantly brings down the chances of future spinal problems. Furthermore, post-surgery rehabilitation is quick and return to normal daily activities is expedited.

Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, GurgaonтАЩs Spine Team annually performs more than 500 complex spine surgeries . As some of the most experienced specialists for artificial disc replacement, we can offer comprehensive and caring spine treatment for you and your loved ones.
