Narayana Health reiterates its commitment to West Bengal Extends its healthcare facilities in Eastern India

Extending its commitment to healthcare in Eastern India and to benefit the people of one of India’s most populated districts which also has an under-penetration of tertiary level healthcare (0.49 private bed / 1000  population in the region), on March 3, 2014, Narayana Health acquired the healthcare business of Jubilant First Trust Health Care, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jubilant Life Sciences Ltd comprising of  two healthcare facilities, namely, Jubilant Kalpatru Hospital in Barasat, Kolkata and Rabindranath Thakur in Berhampore (200 kms from Kolkata). With this acquisition, the NH group now has its presence in 16 cities with 26 hospitals and 6,700 beds across India.

This  is part of NH’s strategic growth plan for East India.  The hospital at Barasat in Kolkata is built on a land spread across 2.5 acres. Equipped with three advanced operation theatres, the hospital has six dialysis machines capable of doing 500 dialysis cycles per month.  Apart from Cardiology services, other key specialities include Neurology, Orthopaedics, Urology, Nephrology, Gynaecology and Paediatric care with 24 hour trauma and critical care services.

Narayana Health plans to upgrade the facilities at the Barasat Hospital in Kolkata to offer tertiary level super-speciality care in four to six months. Starting with a full-fledged cardiology program consisting of a state-of-the-art Cath Lab followed by additions of a radiology suite, endoscopy suite, neuro-diagnostics and so on, Narayana Health will offer tertiary level services in addition to the secondary care services that are being provided at the 120 bed hospital in Barasat. Further plans include construction for an increment in the number of bed strength along with the related clinical infrastructure.

The hospital in Berhampore called ‘Rabindranath Thakur Hospital’ with a built-up area of 22,000 sq ft. located 200 kms from Kolkata is a 50 bedded secondary care hospital with two Operation Theatres and service offerings in Cardiology, Pulmonology, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Neurology and Orthopaedics.

Inclusion of these hospitals under NH network will aid to the reinforcement of its commitment towards bringing high-class super-speciality healthcare services within the reach of the common man in West Bengal. Apart from Narayana Health’s flagship hospital in Kolkata – Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), the group also runs clinics in Lansdowne and a multi-speciality hospital in Salt Lake and Highland Park as well as Heart Centre at West Bank Hospital in Howrah.
