Women’s health is one of the most important parameters which reflect the standard of health care system of a society. Health is a complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of a disease or infirmity. A woman without a disease may not be a healthy individual necessarily. She should be also healthy from mental and social aspects; even spiritual aspect; the fourth dimension. Unfortunately, in our country, we have not been able to provide all requirements and needs for improving and sustaining a complete healthy status, particularly in women.
There are many aspects, which are either directly or indirectly related to improving and providing health care to the women.
Proper education and health consciousness are one of the very important factors. Simply educating the women and guiding them on how to handle different health-related situations, can make the trick. Lack of education about health and hygiene is still responsible for different health problems. Providing health education in the school can make a significant difference.
Another very important aspect is the maintenance of proper nutrition and social infrastructure. Our children particularly girl child and woman are especially vulnerable for the nutritional deficiency which can lead to chronic ill health. Unfortunately, till now in our country, there is a vast number of places when the girls and women are living in deprived condition. Communication system particularly roads connecting to the health centers, hospitals are of immense importance.
Like education, economic self-sufficiency is another very important factor, for developing and maintaining the health of the women. As the woman play the key role to maintain the nutrition of the family, they need the freedom to decide the family budget and expenses when inadvertent spending in different unnecessary means may be avoided. Nutrition, sanitation, water supply, education and social securities are the main pillars for health provisions.
It would be incomplete if the preventive aspect is not mentioned. Presence of disease was there in the past, also present now and will be in the future, only character changes. Interestingly any type can be prevented by taking appropriate measures. There has been a significant decline in infective diseases due to the invention of antibiotics and provision of proper sanitation and hygiene. Lifestyle diseases can be prevented by lifestyle modulation. Now cancer is a big threat and also can be handled by appropriate measures.
Women health problem and management can be discussed in dividing them into four main categories i.e. younger teenage group, women of reproductive age group, women of the perimenopausal and postmenopausal group and geriatric group because life expectancy has been increased significantly. However, pregnancy and childbirth-related problems need a different category of its own. It is not possible to discuss all those aspects in such a small space and can be done discussing common and important conditions somewhere.
Women’s health is one of the most important parameters reflating Nations health and its maintenance and improvement is of utmost importance for National development directly and indirectly. Education maintenance of nutrition providing economic and social support, prevention of health-all play individual important roles.
