Dr. Devi Shetty talks about a new model of making treatments affordable & cheap

“Hands which help are better than the lips that pray” – a placard in the office of Dr. Devi Shetty, Chairman & Founder, Narayana Health, with a picture of the late Mother Theresa who was one of his patients.

Dr. Shetty is a cardiac surgeon who pioneered low-cost cardiac surgery across India, ensuring that the prohibitive cost of treatment did not come in the way of saving lives.

At Narayana Health, no patient is refused admission due to his or her inability to pay for treatment.

Dr. Shetty has been compassionately proactive in offering free treatment to save the lives of those who cannot afford expensive life-saving treatment.

In 2001, Dr. Shetty founded the Narayana Health network of hospitals in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India. Doctors at Narayana Health perform over 7,000 heart surgeries per year without comprising on quality. Through its revolutionary scalable, low-cost model, the hospital is able to treat patients who otherwise could not afford health care.

Dr. Shetty is undertaking to globally expand his compassionate vision of empathetic, high-quality, low-cost health care – through a hospital in the Cayman Islands.
