About the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
The Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at NH SRCC Children’s Hospital deals with children (0-18 years) with problems related to stomach, liver, pancreas and nutrition. Our goal is to provide high standard comprehensive, multi-disciplinary evidence-based medical care.
Our services consist of opinions from experts related to gastrointestinal and hepatic-biliary-pancreatic surgeries, dietetics, endoscopy services, GI-imaging and intervention, investigations, intensive care and specific treatment along with emergency services.
What are the diseases we treat?
We have a fully equipped endoscopy unit, which is backed-up by a dedicated dedicated anaesthesia team. We perform therapeutic and diagnostic upper gastrointestinal and colonoscopy.
Chronic diarrhoea is one of the most common conditions for which children are referred to us. The primary causes are chronic giardiasis, celiac disease, food allergies, tuberculosis, inflammatory bowel disease and traveller’s diarrhoea.
Causes of jaundice in infants and children are varied, and these diseases outnumber the diseases in adults in terms of variety. Treatment by an experienced paediatric herpetologist can make a lot of difference in results as these children are sick and time is precious.
Complex nutrition-related problems:
Nutrition is a very important factor to maintain normal growth and development of children. In many chronic health problems, lack of nutrition may affect the growth of children. Sometimes even over-nutrition can impose many health problems. We provide nutritional assessment, nutritional rehabilitation, Nasojejunal (NJ) tube insertion, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement, and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and home-based TPN as and when required.
